Ohh no.. after n days..

The seedlings growth have officially came to an halt. They do not look like pak choi to me in anyway, more like tau gey perhaps. But ZZ say it might be due to the high concentration of the nutrient solution where the plants are not able to take up the nutrient. Quite true, the water have evaporated really fast because of the hot weather. I have added more water to it, hope it helps. We shall see..

DIYGPCH

Nutrient film technique(NFT) - A hydroponic method in which nutrient is fed into grow tubes or trays in a thin film where the roots draw it up. This "nutrient film" allows the roots to have constant contact with the nutrient and the air layer above at the same time. (www.ohfarms.com.sg)

That is the conventional method. This is my DIYGPCH Do it yourself, grow pak choi hypothesis. However, this technique is not yet confirm by anyone at the moment and further investigations are required to validate the practicability of growing pak chois using this newly developed technique.

This is a a open water culture system where growing in a greenhouse is not required. There is no need for aggregate culture and only occasional aeration is provided. And that only occurs randomly when someone walk pass and accidentally kick it. There is also no need for EC and pH measurement, the only regular monitoring is by visual detection. A change of new solution occurs around twice a week and depends more on my availablity. The purpose of changing the solution is to prevent mosquitoes from growing in it and as a precaution for the spread of dengue fever to people in the vincinity (e.g. me etc.).

So far, there have not been any deaths reported YET. More updates coming up.

From far, this is the NFT that i have set up. DIY type.

The seedlings have grown big enough to be place in the nutrient solution.

The seedlings are growin in a reused KFC box, supplied by my sister. According to her, this box cost $0.50. So total cost right now is $2 for the pak choi seeds and $0.50 of the kfc box. $2.50. Low starting cost.

Some day after..

I have the sponge and nutrient solution A and B from school. Now i can grow my pak chois.

Day 1

Day 1 - I bought a packet of bak choi white seeds at parkway. Agrotechnology was never my fave module but a field trip to a hydroponics farm suddenly ignite my hidden passion in agriculture. Hahahahahaa And did i mention the last plant that i grew was a cactus which very unfortunately, drowned from the water that i watered. I did tried my best.
